Midday Musings

Midday Musings

Sometimes, the internet is a terrible place that I feel I want to disconnect from. But a lot of the time I find gems on the internet that make me smile, make me laugh and make me think. Today is one of those days. Over the past week, some great articles caught my attention and I’m here to share them with you!

1. Making Time

Time1

Ok, the more insightful thing first… My friend Julia posted this infographic on instagram this morning and it made me think back to a time that I was having life chats with Kaylee. We were talking about how we try to fit a million things into our schedule each week and that often, there’s simply not enough time. She wisely advised me that if you change “I don’t have time for…” to “…is not my priority” it can be a real wake up call.

“I don’t have time to call my parents”
“I don’t have time to see my friends”
“I don’t have time to exercise”

VS.

“My family is not my priority”
“My friends are not my priority”
“My health and fitness is not my priority”

It puts things into perspective. And while those extra 37 hours of free time pictured above aren’t always real “free time” there is always a way to make time for the things that are important to us. Maybe that’s scheduling a few hours to do nothing at all – that’s ok! It means resting and recharging is your priority. We CHOOSE our priorities and this picture serves as a wake up call for actively participating in shaping our lives and using our time to best serve ourselves.

(Also, in case you were wondering, Kaylee is a genius and wise beyond her years. We should all be so lucky to have someone so yoda-like in our lives.)

2. 24 Things We Unexpectedly Become Obsessed With In Our Late Twenties

Ok, moving on to the more lighthearted things that have been floating around this week… This is not a new post, but it’s new to me, so hopefully it’s new to you guys too. These lists that apply to our generation always make me smile and I feel like this one really hit the nail on the head. Here’s hoping you spend some time at an indoor farmer’s market to buy local, organic veggies and complete a ton of meal prep this weekend so you feel super productive. Or, at least sing some NSync and go to brunch.

3. It’s Time for the Oscars!

Hollywood’s most glamourous and prestigious evening goes down on Sunday. There are a few things floating around that are sure to make your Sunday a bit more fun. I for one, will be watching with the Ottawa crew and placing intense bets on the winners. To help me do so, I’ll be relying on this free printable Oscar Pool ballot.

I’m also loving this idea of playing Red Carpet Bingo, since the Red Carpet is obviously more just as important as the Awards themselves.

4. The WM is at it again

As much as I wish I could just re-blog the Ottawa Citizen’s mobile weather posts every day, I feel like it might be overkill and it might make me a bit of an online stalker. But, to leave you on a happy note, you should definitely check out today’s weather report because even though it’s cold out, the hilarity of this post will make you laugh and therefore, warm you up.
