Oscar Gown Predictions

Jan/Feb is a busy time of year for the fashion flock. Not only does Awards season kick off and drag on for weeks, but Pre-Fall, Spring Couture AND Fall/Winter shows take place in New York, Milan, Paris and London. While stylists, designers, models and celebs scurry around the globe with fabulous textiles and mountains of accessories, we happily sit at home in front or our TVs and computers, watching as fabulous outfits enter our lives via photograph. It’s a time where many of us become mesmerized by the latest trends, browsing endless street style photos and the newest collections from our favourite designers, waiting for the next IT-girl to don the finale piece that gave us goosebumps.

It can be nearly impossible to predict what any given actress will wear on the red carpet; many look to the fashion archives for a vintage manifestation, many have custom creations made and others have gowns flown in right off the runway to be fitted just minutes before the big event. Evidently, that doesn’t stop me from trying. As a matter of fact, last year my prediction came true when Rooney Mara sported the Nina Ricci gown I picked! Case in point, it’s worth a shot…and you now have a solid excuse to day dream about the world’s most luxurious clothing.

Many of us know that the Academy Awards are the REAL DEAL when it comes to the red carpet. As was apparent this year (with CBS’ new enforcement) the Grammy’s is where the most skin is shown, and the most insanity is displayed (ahem, Gaga in an egg and Nicki with the Pope). The Globes and the Emmy’s are a little more on the “casual” side, meaning ball gowns are left for those TV stars who don’t get to grace the Oscar carpet, and the big guns always come out for the Awards season finale. Here are some lust-worthy dresses I hope to see on Sunday’s carpet.

Wearing that gorgeous champagne number by Valentino (not the feathery one) while sipping champagne would be so trippy but my fav is the elegant and ever so discreetly sexy Monique Lhuiller (who is she?!) gown.
Wish I could be Oscar viewing with my favourite gal!
