Oscar Party Planning

The Oscars; the climactic ending to an always action-packed Awards Season in Hollywood. If you’re anything like the nuts, you’re counting down the days until the glitz, glamour, gowns and gleaming trophies come out in full force. Oscar parties are always fun events, curling up with friends to see who wore what, who won what, and who said WHAT!? If you’re in the planning stages of your Oscar party, look no further. I’ve designed a menu based on nominees for Best Film that is sure to impress your guests!

Oscar Cocktails

No Oscar party would be complete without a cocktail (or ten)…

The “Silver Lining” is a take on the classic Tequila Sunrise, using Silver tequila instead of gold. Mix with orange juice, grenadine and garnish with an orange slice and cherry. Add this to your cocktail playbook from now on!

The “Zero Dark Thirty” is an after-dinner drink, picking up on the pro-American theme in the movie. This American Coffee mixes Bourbon, Brown Sugar and Coffee and is garnished with whipped cream.

Oscar Appetizers

You’ll want a nice spread of appetizers to keep your guests full for this multi-hour event…

For a film set in the South, we head down to the South for “Django‘s Southern Pimento Cheese & Unchained Crackers”. This simple, mouth-watering, cheesy recipe will act as the perfect spread for crackers. (I’m not sure how to make crackers unchained, but it sounds cool, so give me a break.)

Keeping with the Southern trend, we have “Beasts of the Southern Wild Roll-Ups”. Pinwheels are always a hit at any party, and these will not disappoint.

Next, to honour the voiceless character of Life of Pi, we have Tiger Prawns in Garlic Butter. If the garlic butter alone doesn’t sell you, I don’t know what will.

In my research, I found out that one of Abraham Lincoln‘s favourite foods was bacon. SCORE! To honour this famous president, try out “Honest Abe’s Bacon-Wrapped Potatoes“. I’m sure your guests will thank you.

Finally, since Canada was proudly represented in Ben Affleck’s Argo, I figured we should bring things back to our home country with Baked Maple Brie. There’s nothing more Canadian than maple syrup! This recipe mixes maple syrup, brown sugar pecans and dried cranberries. You’re welcome, world. (Serve with more Unchained crackers, if you so desire).

Oscar Dessert

We can’t forget about dessert! Nor can we forget about the last two nominees for Best Picture…

Valentine’s Day just happened, so don’t put those heart-shaped cookie cutters away just yet! Classic sugar cookies are sure to make all your guests fall into Amour with you.

Last, but certainly not least, we have to honour the emotionally draining, Les Miserables. Vive La France! with this Red, White and Blue Ombré cake. Miniature French Flags as cake toppers are optional.

And  there you have it! All the nominees covered in one crazy spread. I won’t lie, some of these recipes require lots of time and work. So, if all else fails, make sure to have lots of popcorn and champagne on hand! May the best film win!
