A Week in Arizona

I was lucky enough to spend the past week in Arizona, and I cannot stop raving about it. The main purpose of heading to the lovely state of Arizona was to attend the wedding of some dear friends. Because it was somewhere we had never been, we decided to make it a week-long vacation. Boy, am I happy that we did!

While Shannon shared her views from Vegas last week, I have to say that the views in Arizona miiiiiight just take the cake (being on a mountain constantly will do that). We spent most of our time in Scottsdale, known as “The West’s Most Western Town”.

Highlights

A 15-person bike pub crawl is the perfect way to start your first day in Arizona… We literally went from plane to bike, where we pedaled this giant bike around Old Town Scottsdale while drinking beers and listening to our own music. Don’t fear, there was a sober conductor leading the way. We reached about 15 km/hour and made three stops at local watering holes (one of which had a wheel of shots, God Bless America). It was epic and I REALLY hope they bring this sort of thing to Canada immediately.

We absolutely loved hiking. The weather was gorgeous (we made sure to start early to beat the heat) and the views were out of this world. There are so many nature trails and mountains in the area that you can choose from. We only saw one lizard, but supposedly if you hike at dawn or dusk, you can see all sorts of other wildlife. I was actually sad I never saw a real-life roadrunner, but the lizard will have to do.

We did a day trip into Sedona, which was such a great choice. I knew we would be visiting some local wineries, but I had no idea that Sedona is known for its vortexes. What is a vortex you ask? It’s a giant magnet of concentrated energy that is either positive or negatively charged. Sedona contains 15 vortexes within a ten mile radius, making it a renowned source of spiritual energy that draws visitors from all over the world. Are you a believer? You should put Sedona on your bucket list! Even if you aren’t a believer, seeing the red-rock mountains and insane scenery will still take your breath away.

The wedding weekend was perfect; held at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale, the ceremony and reception were beautiful. The dance party after dinner was a blast and I may have had a hand in teaching the groomsmen a choreographed dance to surprise the newlyweds with… We spent our time between wedding events lounging by the pool and consuming delicious cocktails. Vacation life = the best life.

Arizona, you were too good to us. We promise we’ll visit again! Until then…*waves goodbye while crying*
