Infused Waters

Water with a Twist

With the warm weather here and the farmer’s markets opening, I have suddenly had some serious cravings for fresh fruit. Since I generally try to consume as much water as possible each day, I figured why not amp it up? Infused waters are all the rage right now, with celebs like Dr. Oz vouching for their superpowers. Not only is it important to drink water to keep ourselves healthy, but different fruits have different positive effects on the body. Read on for a few of the recipes I’ve tried and the health benefits of each!

Raspberry & Lime

Limes have multiple health benefits, including the power to rejuvenate skin and help protect your eyes from aging. Scientific studies show that antioxidant compounds in raspberries have potential health benefits against cancer, aging, inflammation, and neuro-degenerative diseases. Plus, both fruits are high in vitamin C, which can help boost your immune system! Combine one sliced lime and a handful of raspberries to a litre of water.

Mixed Berries

I just mentioned the benefits of raspberries, and so combined with blackberries and strawberries, you get triple the berry-benefits! Strawberries are known for their potential to prevent cardiovascular illness and keep wrinkles at bay. When you eat blackberries, you’re giving your body a dose of germ-fighting ellagic acid, an antioxidant compound with anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. Combine 4-5 sliced strawberries, a handful of raspberries and a handful of blackberries in one litre of water.

Strawberry & Orange

We now know that strawberries are great, but what about mixing them with orange? Oranges are high in vitamin A, B and C. Plus, non-nutrient compounds in the citrus fruit helps in cutting risk for cancers, chronic diseases like arthritis, and obesity. Combine 4-5 sliced strawberries and one quarter of an orange, sliced in one litre of water.
