How time flies. And how quickly things can change in 365 days. Engagements, vacations and new (furry) additions to our families have made for an incredible year filled with many laughs along the way.
Our New Year’s resolutions are signed and sealed, our party dresses are hung up and after a night celebrating the year ahead, we nuts also like to revisit our favourite moments from the year that has passed – a post to toast to 2014!
In 2014, Cat kept us laughing with her post about the 8 types of Facebook parents. She also brought us some really insightful and newsworthy pieces like her letter to Toronto during the Rob Ford debacle and her post that urged us to vote on Election Day. On the foodie front, she brought us a DELICIOUS (and healthy) recipe for paleo chocolate chip cookies and helped us plan our Super Bowl parties with an awesome idea to prepare individual nacho dips for all of our guests. This summer, she gave us a list of date ideas to enjoy in the national capital, took a tour of TD Place with TELUS and took in a Redblacks game. She hit the road for her brother’s wedding in Seattle and showed us that we should really be booking our flights there immediately. After the saddening events in Ottawa this October, Catherine wrote an extremely moving piece that was extremely popular with our readers due to its touching message in a dark time. Finally, she highlighted the importance of giving back over the holiday season with her post on Giving Tuesday!
As always, Jess kept our ears happy and our iTunes stocked with tons of playlists featuring fantastic music crossing all genres. This fall (there’s just something about music in the fall, amirite?) she asked us to pick our favourite fall albums and the answers were so diverse and awesome. Being in the music industry, she talked about having to go to concerts alone, which made us all think about whether we were secure enough to do it. She also asked us what we we’re still scared of and made us all shudder when we admitted them out loud. Jess had a pretty crazy year at work, where she is almost always looking at some sort of electronic screen. This inspired her to find some ways to find peace and quiet at her computer and made her think about the ever-revolving world of social media. Jess’ hair is REALLY on point these days and luckily, she shared some of her favourite styling products with us (thanks girl!) But the biggest change in Jess’ life this year? Bringing home a new member of the fam, her puppy Goose. Of course she loves him, but she also wrote one of our most popular posts of the year – 10 things no one tells you about getting a puppy. Be prepared to laugh out loud.
Kate brought us some great restaurant reviews this year, including stops at Ottawa’s Das Lokal and Fauna. Our little Lalu was lucky enough to take a few trips this year and we were lucky that she shared some gorgeous photographs from her trips to Havana and Varadero in Cuba and to the east coast in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She made a big career move this year and that led her to ask us all about things we wish we knew before entering the workforce. It was SO interesting to see what each nut had to say – while the tips were all different, they all followed the same overarching principles (WORK HARD). Saddened by the death of one of her (and all of our) favourite celebrities this summer, Kate put together a list of Robin Williams’ greatest roles that helped us remember a fantastic actor that brightened our childhood. Over the summer and fall, Kate was taking in lots of live music and brought us an awesome post on fall festival fashion, where anything goes. Finally, in one of our most popular posts, she put together a list of people you need to follow on instagram. Inspirational, comedic and beautiful photos will keep you smiling as you’re scrolling through your insta-feed.
Obviously the biggest news this year has been the excitement surrounding her engagement! We couldn’t be happier that her fiancé/fey-once put a ring on it and we are loving her series of wedding talk posts. So far she’s talked about asking her maids of honour and what to expect from the early planning stages! Kaylee was lucky enough to go to Ireland and Milan this year and showed us how to pack for a long flight, which our readers loved. She also toured the city she calls home and highlighted five Toronto restaurants to satisfy your every craving. She’s been a crazy working woman this year and wrote a hilarious piece about being a young professional. AND, she also gave us 10 instant “pick me up” tips to shake off a funk. Finally, because she is the most fashionable nut, she gave us some quick style fixes to keep us looking our best through the holidays/the rest of the year!
As for me? Well, I kept up with one of my favourite activities: spending time in the kitchen! My favourite recipe from this year would have to be my Cheesy BLT Dip. I took a few risks this year, when I lunched alone for the first time and bared my make-up free face for all to see when I highlighted my daytime and nighttime beauty routines! A year into homeownership, with a large demand from the other nuts, I blogged about the 10 things I learned from buying a house. The nuts were right, because it seems like our readers enjoyed these posts too! I also had a look at the relationship between money and happiness. Writing that post was uplifting and I was glad to share the sentiment that experiences are more valuable than material purchases! Of course, one of my favourite posts had to be #whatjayzsaidtosolange where all of the nuts theorizes what the hell went down in the elevator (when there’s a billion dollars on the elevator). Finally, they wouldn’t call me Martha if I didn’t talk about DIY and the holidays!
