winter

Faithful February

If you remember from my last post here on nutshell, I was away on vacation. It was amazing: sun-filled and fun-filled and I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to get away from the winter with my main man and a great group of people. Now that my trip has come and gone and February has arrived, I’m leaving the warm thoughts of sun behind and embracing the time we have left with winter. The groundhog says we have at least 6 more weeks of it and instead of getting down, I’m planning to embrace the cold weather with some of my favourite things.

1. Crock-Pot Comfort Food

I’m a big advocate of using a crock-pot, but I haven’t really pulled ours out yet this year. I’m looking forward to trying out a few new recipes (like this one) and relying on some tried and true favourites (like this one) this month.

2. Curling up by the Fire with a good Book

I’ve mentioned it before, but one of my favourite features in our new home is the wood-burning fireplace. There is nothing better than the sound and smell of a fire paired with a good book, my favourite blanket and a hot cup of tea. I’m currently reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed and so far I’m digging it.

3. Winterlude & The Canal

Last year I laced up my skates after breaking my leg in late 2012 and it was scary, but so fun. I am looking forward to getting back out on the canal, having a beavertail and some sort of warm bevvy. I’d also love to take in some of the ice sculptures at night because they blow me away every year.

What are you looking forward to doing while the weather is still nippy? We’d love to hear from you!
