#iSad

This morning on Twitter, two new trending topics took over the twitosphere: #iSad and #thankyousteve. A combination of social media outlets and worldwide memorials have allowed a technology influenced generation to grieve for the late Apple legend, Steve Jobs. This afternoon, MMU graduate Mike Vaughan tweeted: “3 Apples changed the World. The 1st seduced Eve, The 2nd fell on Newton and the 3rd was offered to the World half bitten by him #iSad”, which simply describes the influential role Jobs has played within Apple since he took over as “interim CEO” in 1997. In the following years, Steve Jobs made it his priority to strengthen the Mac Business and revert Apple to profitability. It was his ability to believe in his product that gave him the determination to improve product quality as well as innovation and operation superiority within Apple.

For most of us, it is difficult enough to believe in yourself; but, to have millions of others believe in you and your product is an unparalled achievement. No matter where you are, Apple’s products have become paramount in our digital age. On the bus, nearly every third person dons an Ipod in hand. On the street, people will bump into you as they are distracted by that nifty device in hand, the Iphone.

Steve Jobs has changed the face of technology and for that, he can be called a genius; however, his attitude towards his work and his vision that he could change the world calls heavier to his true genius. His insightful words about the relationship you hold with your career are testimonial: “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.”

Steve Jobs didn’t settle. It is for this reason that we can look at our world much differently than the generation before us and experience our every day interactions through a technologically enhanced lens.

As time goes on and we continue to tweet through our Iphones and Facebook on our Macs, it is without doubt that the world will forever be #iSad for the loss of Apple’s greatest and most influential mind, Steve Jobs.
