This very blog you’re reading was devised over a serving of caesars and an out-of-the-blue brainstorm, and the latest Web Series to hit YouTube, written/directed by a friend of inanutshell, Lindsay Tapscott, and created/produced by Katie Nolan, was conceived under similar circumstances – in the presence of an open bar. But, after a year and a half of hard work and dedication from a talented cast and crew, “Hot Mom” has become so much more than a silly idea that came about over drinks.
Women in comedy have never been more in vogue, bringing comedians/writers like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Lena Dunham and Mindy Kaling to the forefront of the conversation (and our television screens.) Lena Dunham recently said in an interview, “…the idea that the feminism conversation could be cool again and not just feel like some granola BS is so exciting to me.” It’s new-age feminism with a bite, without the fear and with the realness that it demands. “Hot Mom” is all about this shift, and more, taking it to the next level and tackling the mother-daughter relationship in all its complexity.
Add to that – hilarious anecdotes from a 20-something life (mechanical bulls, designer dresses gone awry, one-night stands) and the language us ladies have taken on as our own (“STOP.” “Totes.” “Dying.”) – and you’ve got a gut-busting web series you’re bound to love. Hot Mom is the story of mother/daughter duo, Heather and Sacha Birch (“Sash & Hez”) and their extremely close relationship. Conversation topics like sex, men and insecurities are not off boundary when it comes to these women – they’ve been connected at the hip since Heather had Sacha at the age of 19. Watch as their relationship evolves and the people around them continue to wonder if perhaps they are a little TOO close?
Hot Mom launched TODAY and will air episodes every 1st and 15th of the month through the fall with a possible gap between the first and second half of season 1, as Lindsay says “You know, like Mad Men. Because we’re just like Mad Men.”
