I’ve made my darling Mother mixed tapes and CDs for years.
Because, there’s no denying it – our generation’s parents grew up during one of the most interesting eras in music: that fateful span between the 50s and 70s where all glorious hell broke loose. From toddlerhood all the way through to university and us being a twinkle in their eyes, our bellbottom-sporting ‘rents and their wildly unfortunate coifs saw the best of the Brit-pop invasion, classic rock and soulful disco. And, now what? Between raising a brood, decades of hard work in the office and the (likely) inability to operate digital media – these parents of ours might need a little help in finding what works for their ears nowadays. They’ve got the musical palette, so I’m here to help paint them a picture.
Kaylee recently pointed out the genius tailored gift guides created by the always-lovely Joanna Goddard on her blog, A Cup of Jo. She thought it would be just as useful to craft playlists for those people in our lives who have such a distinct taste for something musical – whether it’s a sax solo, a tune that bodes well for two-stepping in the kitchen or anything that imitates that “cutie” Pharrell.
So, let’s start with some special songs for all of those hard-working, funky Mamas who naturally smell better than any perfume and never tell you to turn the song down.
