Rainy Romantics

Rainy days call for pretty songs

The shine of the office lights, sea of clicking keyboard keys and hum of central air make for a mildly cozy office atmosphere on this rainy day in Canada’s capital (I suppose), but I still felt like it called for a little extra something. I sleuthed around to think of what heartwarming little ditty might provide some additional TLC on this otherwise drab morning, and came up with a meaningful song from New York City-based indie rockers The Walkmen.

This 2008 track, which undoubtedly is an all-time favourite of mine, is extremely special in about a million ways. It’s gorgeous, poetically penned and sways like a theme song ballad from an old black-and-white movie. It’s perfect for any time of year in Canada – whether the snow is heavy or it’s a humid summer night – because it will always add that extra twinkly romance to a grey day.

Listen to this contemporary classic and either grab your main squeeze for a slow dance on the front lawn or your best friend for a walk in the rain – because this song, most importantly, celebrates someone wonderful… the Canadian Girl.

Happy Rainy Day, Canadian girls.

Canadian Girl – The Walkmen

“So take my hand/ All the players in the band/ They can always find/ Always find some number that we know.”
