6 Reasons Why Folkfest Is The Best

1. The Ottawa Folkfest Line-Up

Foster the People. Lorde. The Strumbellas. Blue Rodeo. J.Cole. The War on Drugs. The National.

There are only a few things in life that could have kept me away from this festival and the stellar line-up.  It seems that every year the Ottawa Folkfest repertoire of artists keeps getting better and better, giving festivals like Bluesfest, Ottawa’s staple music festival, a run for its money.

2. Affordable Festival Fees

Speaking of dolla-dolla-billz, this particular festival is relatively cheap and, certainly cheerful! A full festival pass is only $129 and gets you into a musical haven for five consecutive nights.

3. The September Festival

There’s something invigorating about finally ditching the floral prints and trading them in for a more casual plaid and leather boots-look (that’s an exact description of my attire last night). And, what’s better than spending those last few nights of summer, as the evenings begin to hint at fall,  drinking cold beer with a cold nose and listening to tunes with friends.

4. The Craft Beer

We nuts love our craft brews and this year, there is a craft brew house on site- a perfect stomping ground to meet up with your crew and have a few before making your way into the performance grounds. The Craft Beer House features: Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company, Creemore Springs, Whitewater Brewing and Turtle Island Brewing. The tent will also feature live music and will stay open after the festival closes for those who like to linger when beer is near.

5. The Festival Size

Face one stage to catch a must-see act and, come end of performance, you can literally turn on your heel to catch the next artist on a stage only a few feet away. Another plus of this smaller-scale festival venue? You can always find an amazing vantage point. For me, a concert make-or-break is based on my proximity to the stage – if I can’t see the artist’s facial expressions, a little bit is lost in the performance. But at Folkfest’s perfectly cozy venue, that is something easily avoided.

6. The Live Listening Experience

I can attest to this experience, as I lived it last night when Foster the People took to the stage. Hearing a band- a good band- live, is a truly dazzling experience, especially if you’ve only ever heard them over the radio’s airwaves. Foster the People, a band I had always liked but never loved, belted out each of their anthems last night and had the crowd hand-clapping and bopping along, despite the rain. Hearing them perform live provided me with a whole new level of musical love for this group. All week long, Folkfest will provide many more opportunities to hear what talented artists actually sound like, in the flesh!

The nuts hope to see you at the festival tonight where we will be rocking out to Lorde and more.
