Isn’t it appropriate after my last post, that I’m kicking off the week with ANOTHER 10 year anniversary?
This time, I’m talking about the ten year anniversary of a beauty bar that I love, The Ten Spot. A few years back when some of my friends first moved to Toronto, I was made insanely jealous by their constant ravings about a line of popular beauty bars across the 6ix. Whenever it came to Birthdays for the TO crew, The Ten Spot was our go-to for a fun and pampering experience. You can only imagine how excited I was when a location opened up in Ottawa in the Westboro neighbourhood.
In case you’re not already in the know, The Ten Spot is a chain of “dope-ass beauty bars” across Canada that were founded in 2006, by a then 24 year old (!!) Kristen Wood. Wood identified a gap in the industry and opened her first location in Toronto’s Queen West Neighbourhood, combining the convenience of a local nail salon with the top quality standards of a spa.
After successfully opening a number of locations, Wood decided to franchise the business and looked for female entrepreneurs to join her. Now, there are 18 locations across Canada that offer over 35 services, from manis and pedis to waxing and facials.
My most recent visit was with a bridal party and it was the most fun. The staff were fantastic, not only giving us flawless manis and pedis, but also weighing in on our celeb gossip including how we actually feel about Taylor Swift vs. Kim/Kanye, etc. The coffee they served me gave me life, the music playing was only the best of the early 2000’s and Clueless was playing on the TV. I was home.
Vowing to visit more regularly, even though I live in a different part of town, you can imagine my delight when they reached out to tell us about their ten year anniversary. To celebrate, they’re offering free quickie services from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. all day on Wednesday August 10! Guests can enjoy complimentary quickie manis, pedis or waxing services on a first come, first serve basis, at all of the locations across the country.
In keeping with their goal of empowering women and female entrepreneurs, The Ten Spot has partnered with Dress for Success for this event; a global charity with affiliates in 11 Canadian communities, including Ottawa. This organization helps women achieve economic independence, by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Guests are invited to donate any unopened makeup or beauty products, gently used business accessories (i.e. black purses, shoes), or provide a monetary donation to the organization during their visit.
