Midday Musings (New Year’s Edition)

Happy New Year, nuts! In the past, our Midday Musings posts have been a way to share some interesting things floating around the web with our readers. Of course, over the past week, my newsfeed has been piled high with posts about New Year’s Resolutions. While some people find the influx of #newyearnewme posts annoying, I personally see nothing wrong with it. While the haters may argue that you can change your life anytime and shouldn’t rely on any date on the calendar to do so, anything that inspires you (or gives you a kick in the butt) to make positive changes is alright by me.

All that to say, there have been som earticles posted about New Year’s Resolutions that I actually found uplighting and/or helpful. Read on for your daily dose of inspiration! #youcandoit

1. I was turned on to this article by The Dailey Method Ottawa, who shared it just as the New Year was kicking off. One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to continue taking TDM barre fitness classes three times a week, just like we were doing for our blogger challenge throughout November and December. The article gives gives some useful and practical tips on how to set fitness goals that you can stick to all year long. 2. On a similar note, my girl LC has blogged a bunch of times about New Year’s Resolutions. In this article, she gives her tips for sticking to them. A few of her suggestions are similar to those listed in the last article, but the thing that jumped out at me was the visual aspect. LC talks about writing out your Resolutions and putting them in a visible place. Whether this is a list you write out or an inspiration board you create, displaying a visual reminder in a place that you will see everyday will certainly help to remind yourself of your goals and help to keep you more accountable with yourself.

3. I’ve been making mental notes to drink more water for a while (check out my infused water recipes here), but, I don’t always succeed with gulping down enough H2O. One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to try to up my intake, especially on weekends. Personally, I find weekdays a bit easier because I’m sitting at my desk and I make an effort to down a bottle of ice water in the morning, at least 1-2 cups of tea and then a large mason jar of water in the afternoon. (P.S. half a peeled and sliced cucumber in a 1L mason jar of water is my go-to these days). Once I’m home, I tend not to reach for water as much. And therefore, weekends are a struggle. I’ve already shared this article on my social media platforms because I found it so interesting. Unfortunately, “drink more water” is something I would have probably failed at since there was no tangible goal (see, those other articles are helpful). But drinking 3 litres of water a day is a clear goal and seeing the benefits experienced by the author is definitely making me want to chug as much as I can, every day of the week.

4. Of course, this list of articles couldn’t ALL be serious. As always, Buzzfeed brings us a hilarious list of New Year’s Resolutions that all twenty-somethings should make in 2015. Except I’m totally not giving up the overuse of emojis, let’s be real.
