If you couldn’t tell already, we’re pretty obsessed with fall around here. I love everything about the season, from sweater weather to pumpkin spice everything. My other obsession is crafting, so naturally I needed something that I could put out at Thanksgiving and last until the Christmas decorations come out (on December 1). My extremely crafty friend introduced me to the idea of decorative pumpkins and I instantly knew they would be perfect. We got out her craft box and used paint, modge podge and sparkles (SO many sparkles).
We started with our small pumpkins. For our first pumpkins, we lightly brushed modge podge over the areas that we wanted to sparkle and then shook the sparkles on carefully. For our second pumpkins, I stayed the course and did a different colour of sparkles. My friend, Alex, decided to paint her second pumpkin, let it dry overnight, and then add the modge podge to apply polka dots (and it turned out beautifully).
Next we turned our attention to our large, white, pumpkins. Alex decided to make a diamond pumpkin and I decided to do a chevron version. Alex free-handed her pumpkin (no, I’m not kidding – she’s amazing). For my chevron pumpkin, I needed to tape the areas that I didn’t want painted. I free-handed the chevron stripes with a pencil and then used masking tape to achieve the straight lines.
