Another year, another Valentine’s Day and you don’t have plans again. Never fear, the nuts have got your Valentine’s Day plans all figured out for you. Any of the following options will guarantee you a spot in your girl or guys’ good book – and we all know that’s exactly where you want to be!
1. Rockin’ Night Out
You might think we’re talking about live music – but we’re not (don’t worry, we’ll get there soon!) We’re actually talking about a night at West Park Bowling. They do a glow in the dark rock n’ bowl on the weekends that is so fun. Go for an early game and you can bet a beer on who will get the most strikes! After you’ve had your fill of the lanes, mosey down the road to Elmdale Tavern. Saturday nights feature some awesome DJs who spin 90s and 2000s hits and are sure to keep you dancing all night long!
2. Brookstreet Hotel Getaway
There is nothing nicer than a weekend away, even if it’s in the city you live in. We’ve talked about staycations before on the blog and would highly recommend a hotel and spa getaway for you and your bae. Luckily for us Ottawans, the Brookstreet Hotel is close to home and has everything you need for a romantic night or two. Besides luxury accomodations, Brookstreet also has a spa! With a variety of treatments, you and your partner can relax and get pampered during the day. You can also check out the indoor salt water pool, that will make your skin feel rejeuvenated. For your evening activities, Brookstreet offers a fantastic Valentine’s Day Menu at their restaurant, Perspectives, featuring a mouth-watering 7 course meal. Cap off your night at their Jazz Lounge, Options, where live music will play from 8p.m.-12a.m. This is the perfect date if you’re looking to treat yourselves to something really special!
3. Winter Brew Fest
For all the beer lovers: this weekend you can try brews from all of the popular, local craft breweries that we’re so lucky to have close to home in Ottawa. With nearly 80 different beers to try, you and your date will have plenty of time to sip on all the amazing varieties. There will also be lots of food to sample. Held at Landsdowne Park in the Horticulture Building, which is a century old, you’re sure to have an amazing time. Plus, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can skate there!
4. Recreate Your First Date
For the long-term couples reading: think back to the beginning of your relationship. Chances are you were nervous, excited and completely filled with those butterflies about each other. In an effort to throwback to those first precious moments together, we suggest re-creating your first date. Whether you go back to the same restaurant you went to, watch the same movie, stroll the same streets will inevitably make you feel nostalgic and romantic!
Case in point: when my man and I had our first official date, I had invited him over to my house to make dinner and watch a movie. I can still remember that he made this delicious “Cornflake Chicken” while I showed off my underdevelopped kitchen skills and made minute rice and green beans. Not my finest showing, but I can still remember shooing my roommates out of the house and thinking, “this could be the start of something big”. To be honest, I don’t think we’ve ever made that meal again, but I look back on it with the fondest memories and if we were to cook it on Valentine’s Day, I can guarentee it would make my heart flutter a little more than normal.
5. Sit-at-the-bar Crawl
We suggested this last year and received so much positive feedback that we had to suggest it again! While reservations may be hard to come by at your favourite restaurant for Valentine’s Day, restaurants rarely take reservations at the bar. Pick your favourite neighbourhood and walk from place to place, having a drink and some light fare at the bar. Most places even offer the full dinner menu, so if you’re feeling the vibe at one of your pit stops, park it a bit longer and indulge in some fantastic food!
6. Galentine’s Day
All the Single Ladies! Who says that Valentine’s Day has to be strictly about couples? We think that Valentine’s Day should celebrate all the loves in your life and if you’re anything like us, our girlfriends are our soulmates. You could always throw an Anti-Valentine’s Day party, but we’re suggesting that you round up all your girlfriends and plan a night out. Whether you decide on dinner, drinks and dancing the night away or taking in the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey on opening day, planning an awesome evening with your girls is definitely better than eating ice cream alone at home.
7. Partner Yoga
If you’re looking for a fun and active date this year, why not take your girl or guy to partner yoga? Enjoy a fun an interactive class with your significant other and sweat it out! Plus, if you indulge in a delicious meal afterwards you can do it guilt free! Classes are being offered at Rama Lotus and Pure Yoga this weekend.
