Nuts for: Striped Skirts

Let’s face it. Editors, socialites and bloggers themselves are the fashion blogosphere’s version of celebrities. After several years of incessantly browsing The Sartorialist’s latest shots and Tommy Ton’s newest fashion week moments on Jak & Jil blog, I can rightly say that celebrities are no longer my style idols. Taylor Tomasi, my ultimate fashion icon, is the style and accessories director for US Marie Claire, and I’m always digging through the web for her latest look. Another name you may have heard lately is Anna Dello Russo who is best known for her outlandish outfits, but she’s also Vogue Japan’s creative consultant and editor at large. Meanwhile, bloggers like Susie Bubble of Style Bubble, Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere and Elin Kling of Style by Kling are becoming models, consultants and even starting their own fashion magazines. It’s safe to say that the times are a’changing.

The web is stocked full of pictures of these people and the looks they wear when they’re out and about. After all, celebrities go to the runway shows to make appearances, whereas the editors and bloggers are there to document the experience; write a review and interview the designers. They are the juice of this industry, they make an unreachable world accessible to the masses, and while they’re doing that, they wear the most current, high-end clothing there is, in a way that no one else does.

This is why they are the best people to grab inspiration from. Celebrities have stylists and makeup artists at their beck and call. But these hard-workers have usually completely thought up their looks from their very own wardrobes and they wear runway styles like everyday people would (if they could).

This past season, the look on these people’s hips was Prada’s Spring 2011 pink and black striped pencil skirt. If you keep up with some blogs and read the odd magazine, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you’ve missed this, trust me when I say that it was the look of the season. Here you’ll see some of the industry’s biggest powerhouses wearing the look in their own unique ways.

Now that us regular folk have caught up with the trend, we can work our magic to recreate it at a fraction of the price. Topshop’s replica (#1) is the most famous version, but depending on your frame and style, I think experimenting with lengths and patterns is even better, and just as on-trend.
