Amidst the carols, the gifts and all the Holiday cheer…fashion remains uninterrupted. The Pre-Fall 2013 collections are underway, and once again this year, this little known season that flies under the radar, is a standout favourite of mine. What separates these post-Summer collections from the rest, is their true incarnation of the word “ready-to-wear”. They are made up of key separates, transition pieces and offer us much inspiration for growth in our very own wardrobes.
Burberry: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?
Burberry’s formula season after season consists of 1 female and 1 male model, a cute on-trend hat, several jacket/trench renditions, the of-the-moment skirt, and earthy colours galore…but hey, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to what works. That half fur, half camel coat…I can’t.
Chanel: Plaid Army
If Karl is genius at one thing (..more like a thousand), it’s reinventing that iconic tweed Coco suit over and over again, with no sense of exhaustion. Drawing inspiration from Coco’s time in Scotland, Karl infused tartan and tweed, wools, braids, earthy tones and a tad of grunge this season, bringing the brand to a whole new land, indeed (and that child!)
Gucci: Tamed Glamour
This collection feels like a huge departure from classic Gucci for me, and I have to say, I love it. The necklines are high, the cuts are refined, and the prints are classic – very reminiscent of the fifties in all their glory. I adore the head-to-toe plaid, those long, leather gloves and the cinched waists. Tamed glamour is oh-so chic.
Oscar de la Renta: She’s a Lady
You can spot an Oscar de la Renta collection from a mile away; feminine mannerisms, accentuated waists, statement accessories, and a ballgown finale. This was not ODLR’s most memorable presentation, but he always manages to reinvent the wheel, incorporating new cuts, patterns and fabrics, truly convincing us all that ladylike will never go out of style (and who can resist the new-age Cinderella dress from every little girl’s dreams?)
