Alright readers, I’m going to level with you. If you ask my friends, they’ll tell you that I am kind of obsessed with being organized. My infamous agenda is the source of many jokes, with my slight OCD revealing itself through the colour-coordinated notations that are meticulously recorded for every event. My to-Do lists are over the top, with each step of a particular task being individually listed. And so, the one issue that I have is procrastination. I may be the most organized girl in the world, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t procrastinate actually completing my multitude of lists like everyone else.
As a graduate student in my second year, my thesis is the source of my anguish. Unfortunately, there is no one to baby me or to set deadlines. Instead, I have to self-regulate my time and force myself to complete work. That being said, the first part of my thesis that will be turned in is due exactly one week from today. And so, I need a little motivation. Here’s where this week’s Movie Music Moment comes in to ‘play’. What better song to pump me up than the soundtrack that motivated the world’s favorite fictional underdog: Rocky.
We all know Rocky, the southpaw from Philly. He was the eternal underdog, who (in every film) overcame his stronger competitors and ended up on top. The average Joe’s inspiration, Rocky was a film that anyone who had ever been down and out could relate to. And when Rocky trains for his big fight against Apolo Creed, we watch as the theme song, “Gonna Fly Now” blares in the background. When Rocky reaches the top of the steps and fist pumps in triumph, you literally feel like you can do anything.
And so, here’s some motivation for your Monday. Keep your fingers crossed that I can embrace this theme song and triumph over my daunting task…in a nutshell.
I’m motivated all over again…..! Just what I needed tonight.
In a nutshell, you WILL get it done…. just like Rocky. Make the decision and just go for it!
one more thing……he sure was “in all his glory!” :0)
Sweet blog Meghan! Who knew you were such a writer!!
