As mentioned yesterday, it was move in day for three of us nuts.
Or rather, move out day.
The three of us have been best friends since childhood and have lived together for almost two years. New opportunities arose and yesterday it was time for us to say goodbye to the house we resided in for many fond university memories.
Our street address was 864, so quickly that became the only way our house was referred to. The number of times I heard “Meet at eight, six, four?” are countless. And now, 864 is no more.
As sad as this departure was, it is also exciting. We are moving on to bigger and better things. Growing up and following our dreams. It’s that scary time between the comfort of school and the security of finding your own special place in the world. Sometimes I have to remind myself we are so young and that change is good.
Also, that moving, as strenuous, exhausting and annoying as it is, brings one HUGE positive that cannot be overlooked. A chance to re-organize your closet – hallelujah.
Truly the best part about moving out of a situation like this is you’re not saying goodbye to roommates, you’re saying, “There better always be a space for me on your futon!” to best friends.
The past few years have housed some wild parties and wilder moments. Who can forget the time we begged ByLaw to shut our party down because it was out of control? Or the time Meghan decided to smash beer bottles on the ground in celebration of our first night in the new pad?
Of course there were more tender moments as well. Our hearts were broken and repaired in between those walls. We had triumphs and failures. We reached the bottom of the barrel and then found our way back to the top. Always having someone to rub your back, hug away those tears and tell you that sometimes, you’re just an idiot and should have known better.
The thing I will miss the most about a place that was never a palace but always a home is flopping down on my best friend’s bed and saying, “Guess. What.” Good or bad, it was always an adventure.
So here is one last tribute to the house no one will forget. Browse through these classic 864 moments if you’ve ever been, heard of it, or most likely woken up on our couch (…or floor).
If those walls could talk … well, they would simply say too much. In a nutshell.
