Well folks, it’s birthday season here on the ‘shell and we couldn’t be happier to ring in yet another birthday with one of our beloved nuts- Meghan!
Meghan is an incredibly integral part of inanutshell, breathing life into our baby every day with her creativity and sharp wit. Even though you may have come to know her through her innovative posts over the years, there is a lot to Ms. Meg that doesn’t meet the eye.
Find out why we love her so very much and why anyone who meets her can’t help but feel the same.
To kick off your quarter century birthday, a list of 25 reasons why you’re so special to us Meg. Happy Birthday!
1. Meghan is one of the funniest women we know. Not only does she have a knack for one liners (“Ya. Okay!”), her delivery is always on the mark, making her best friends keel over in laughter.
2. Meghan gives the best advice. She’s very rational and level headed and isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. It’s no wonder she’s become a sounding board to all of us.
3. Meghan has the voice of an angel, spending her youth singing at just about any chance she could get. At her high school graduation, Meghan sang a song that brought the entire crowd to tears. Meghan’s immaculate range can send chills up any crowd’s back.
4. Meghan is the first of the nuts to be the proud owner of a home, which she purchased just weeks ago with her beau. You could say she is the queen of adult firsts in our group.
5. Meghan plays the guitar. She used to play regularly, in her hayday of being a songstress, but now, given the chance Meg will pick up a guitar and surprise you with a few chords that you never even knew existed.
6. Meghan is an incredibly hard worker. If she has a goal in mind, she will stop at ABSOLUTELY nothing to achieve it. Whether that means, cutting out a few nights of partying to save, or picking up a SECOND job on top of her already demanding and full-time position, Meghan’s work ethic is one of her most admirable qualities.
7. And, unbeknownst to most, Meghan not only completed her BA at Carleton University, but went on the very next year to complete a Master’s degree.
8. Meghan LOVES the water. She is amphibious to the point that she would rather be in water than on land. While we all spend hours evening out our tans on the beach, Meg will be the first one in to the waves… and always, the last one out.
9. Meghan used to be the biggest party animal we knew. She knew every bartender and bouncer by name and would skip just about any line because everyone knew she would liven up the party.
10. In fact, Meghan once ordered dozens of Jagerbombs for friends and strangers alike, and then proceeded to throw down her credit card and sign it: “I Like To Party”. Meghan- in a nutshell.
11. Meghan is a rock for all of us. Whenever we are in a slump or having a bad day, she will always be the first one to send a pick-me-up message of love your way.
12. But despite being a tough cookie herself, Meghan has her own soft spot. For some reason, Meghan gets teared up at the little things. For example: Meghan cannot watch the Tim Horton’s commercial featuring the young boy and his grandparents without opening the floodgates and becoming a complete puddle.
13. Meghan may have a 9-5 government job. She may have an affliction for cardigans, pretty dresses and baking. But don’t let that fool you. Meghan has a side to her that is straight up G. G as in GANGSTA. She’ll rap you under the table all while sporting a smirk ball cap and more swagger than you thought possible from a blue-eyed, blonde haired babe.
14. Meghan has a cat. Named Jasper. That she’s obsessed with. This beady-eyed furball easily turns his Momma into a cat-stagramming, cat storytelling ball of mush. Recently, while listening to a story, the group turned to see an uncharacteristically weepy Meg tearing up at the happy ending. Upon being asked,”Meghan – what happened to you? You used to be made of stone,” Meg answered, “Jasper’s changed me.”
15. Friendship is paramount for Meghan. She’s the kind of person who can get you up to speed on everything everyone from high school is currently up to because she is so good at fostering long term friendships. She’s the one that texts you, “hey, just wanted to chat” on the daily and remembers all the little things only best friends could.
16. Meghan has many special people in her life, but two that are the most near and dear to her heart are her grandparents. Growing up down the street from them, Nana and Grampy were an active part of her upbringing and a treasured relationship in her adult life.
17. Meghan’s fashion sense has blossomed over the years. Sporting pretty prints, bright colours and tasteful jewels, she always dresses the part for every event. However, she did not always used to be like that. Once upon a time, Meghan tucked her t-shirts into her jeans, wore her blonde tresses in a slick-back ponytail and let nike tracksuits reign. Catherine has pictures to prove it.
18. In recent years, Meghan has channeled her inner Better Crocker and Martha Stewart to become in a nutshell’s resident professional when it comes to any kitchen creation or DIY project. Even Meghan, herself, isn’t sure where this new found talent came from, but for anyone who’s sampled her red velvet cupcakes, we’re sure glad it did.
19. Meghan loves scary moves. She’s scared of them. She is terrified watching them. And will likely turn every light on in the house seeing one, but every Halloween you can bet she’ll dedicate a full day to a scary movie marathon. Popcorn and blanket in hand.
20. Meggo is one tough cookie and brave woman. She’s the first to question someone’s behaviour (“I’d pay”), stand all the way up for her friends and – true to her interest in law – point out the injustice in any situation that wrongs those she loves.
21. Despite being the Mother Hen of our group, Meg doesn’t really like cuddling or snuggles. Meghan’s friends once classical conditioned her to enjoy snuggles. She would receive a hug-attack, and then be rewarded with a treat. The experiment’s results are still being monitored.
22. Meghan has so much enviable spirit. Everything from being a kick-ass frosh leader, going all out for national holidays and costume parties or decorating for a friend’s surprise party (she’s a pinterest guru now) – Meghan has such a zest for life and special occasions, making her infectious to be around.
23. Meghan is a meat and potatoes kind of gal. Give her a steak and some mashed and she’s happy as a clam. With that said, being best friends with a couple of foodies she’s more than happy to tag along on any culinary adventure and try anything once.
24. Despite being highly successful in her field of study, any of the nuts would be happy if she quit all her jobs to become a full time masseuse. She gives the best head rubs in the league… after a little prodding.
25. Meghan is a friend you can literally always count on. With her protective and nurturing nature, Meghan is there when you need her most or you just need to bounce an idea off someone. She’s calm, caring and insightful. And whether it’s a drive to the train station at 4:30am, head rub from her lap when you need TLC or talking you through the most important decisions of your life, Meghan is endlessly giving.
